Z-Man’s Blog- The Showcase #2

Official Release | December 14, 2021

By Scott Zurilla, The Voice of the Charge

Greetings from Wisconsin! I’m coming to you from the land of cheese curds (disgusting) and Packers fans (meh). I wish had better news to report from the hardwood, but I don’t.

After falling with 0.3 to go in the first meeting here in November in Oshkosh , the Charge dropped another heartbreaker, this time 110-107.

The good news however, is that overall the Charge have played their best basketball of the season recently. First, they went into Sioux Falls and snuck past the Skyforce with two clutch late game wins. Returning home, the Wine and Gold washed and repeated with two wins over Iowa. The 4 game win streak lifted the Charge to 6-4 before this loss to the Herd. Now at 6-5, the Charge have all but been eliminated from the upcoming Showcase Cup playoff round. They will however still travel to Sin City this weekend for two games following a home game Friday night vs. Motor City.

The other good news has been the play of Dylan Windler. After being assigned by the Cavaliers on December 6th, Dylan has been terrific with 19 points, 7 rebounds and four 3’s in a win over Iowa, followed up by a 26 point, 11 rebound seven 3 ball game here against the Herd. Chatting with Dylan after a practice last week, he told me he was excited to play and just needed some reps. Based on his last two outings, he was spot on as he has looked great.

Another bright spot was Cavs 2-way Tacko Fall being named G League Player of the Week for games played during the final week of November. All Tacko did was average 22 points on 17 of 21 from the floor (including 10 of 10 in game one against the Skyforce ), 14 rebounds ( including a season high 17 ) and 2 blocked shots per outing. Oh, and he hit 9 of 10 free throws to boot.

Off the floor, Trey Scott, Kyle Guy, Montell McRae, Charles Matthews and Mitch Ballock all served a pizza lunch to some men in need at the Cleveland City Mission. Lots of fun trash talk from everyone. It was a really good time.

I’m also mildly cheesed off ( see what I did there? ) at Norvel Pelle. Norvel continues to beat me to be the first person on the bus to games, which I hate! Norvel also has a sweet collection of ball caps he likes to wear, from Dodgers, to Yankees ( what? ) to Blue Jays. When I ask how he can wear both LA and NY caps, he just says he likes how they look, no loyalty. Fine by me.

Finally, as our trip to Las Vegas quickly approaches, Mitch Ballock and I had a brief discussion prior to a recent practice on our shared love of the table game “craps.”

As Vince Vaughn’s character, Trent Walker, said in the movie “Swingers,” “Vegas Baby, Vegas.”

Happy Holidays to you and yours.

Talk to you soon.
