Z Man's Blog - Season Recap

By Cleveland Charge Staff /April 11, 2022

Well, that was quick. Seems like just yesterday the 5 month run up to the start of the inaugural season of Charge basketball in Cleveland ended and the beginning of the new season was ready to get under way. And now here we are, a week after the end of the season and I already don’t know what to do with myself.

Looking back, while the win / loss record certainly wasn’t what anyone envisioned, there were plenty of positives to take away. And that’s what I’m here to do.

For starters, Dan Geriot got his first taste as a head coach. And while he’s been an assistant within the Cavaliers organization for a number of years, there’s nothing like moving over those 12 inches to the head coach seat and getting to know what it’s like to be “the guy.” Again, not the wins and losses he wanted, but watching him grow from 1st year head coach to head coach was fun to watch. Congratulations on a job well done, Big Dan!

As for the players, how about five different guys earning NBA call-ups?! Tre Scott and Malik Newman to the Cavs, Kyle Guy to the Heat, Justin James to the Pelicans and Norvel Pelle to both Boston and Utah. In addition, 2 Way Players Tacko Fall, R.J. Nembhard and Brandon Goodwin got good runs with the Charge to supplement their time with the Cavs. Not to mention Dylan Windler REQUESTING to be assigned to the Charge to continue to work on his game. That is what the NBA G League is all about folks. As much as we all want win after win, improving your game, learning how to become a pro and being ready when the opportunity presents itself is really what matters most. And when you take all of the above into consideration, the 2021/2022 Cleveland Charge season was a rousing success!

And while I’ve got you, I want to take a moment to say thanks for all you did to make this past season a success as well during our maiden voyage in Cleveland. Once everyone found us at our new home of the Wolstein Center, the crowds showed up, both young and old and cheered on the Wine and Gold. And our social media interactions and impressions were among the best in the league! So thanks again, we look forward to seeing you at a Charge game next season. And don’t be a stranger, feel free to come say hello to me at the scorer’s table before or after a game, I love to meet fans and talk hoops!

So that’ll do it to it for now, but stay tuned as I’ve got one more blog / recap / whatever this thing is to go. I think you’ll like it, so keep an eye right here to Clevelandcharge.com!

Talk at you soon!
