UNIONDALE, NY – The Canton Charge (10-15), powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, took down the Long Island Nets (18-8) in a 118-117 victory on Friday night.
Trailing 114-111 and 1:19 left in the game, Canton’s Kobi Simmons hit a long jumper to cut the deficit to one. The Charge defense stopped Long Island three separate times on the next possession resulting in a shot clock violation and the ball. Simmons’ aim was true again on the next possession as he pulled up from 26 feet to put the visitors ahead, 116-114. Long Island’s Theo Pinson returned the favor with 5.7 seconds left and buried a triple to put the hosts back out in front. Levi Randolph found space in the paint with 1.5 seconds left as he floated in what would be the game-winning shot.
Randolph ended the night with a season-high 28 points on 10-of-15 shooting in 39 minutes. JaCorey Williams scored 28 points on an efficient 13-of-14 shooting and eight rebounds in 34 minutes. Phil Carr made his Charge debut and scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds in 18 minutes. Scoochie Smith added 11 points, seven boards and eight assists with two steals in 34 minutes.
Theo Pinson finished with a game-high 30 points on 3-of-11 from three-point range and 11-of-11 from the foul line to go with seven assists in 39 minutes. Alan Williams nabbed 18 points and 18 rebounds in 24 minutes. Okaro White added 15 points and 16 rebounds in 30 minutes. Long Island grabbed 24 offensive rebounds as a team and 60 total boards on the night.
