This season, the Canton Charge partnered with the Ohio Council of Community Schools (OCCS) to provide students with unforgettable experiences and to showcase the Canton College Preparatory School in the local Northeast Ohio market.
Five OCCS students were hand selected to sign honorary contracts, making them Charge team members for a day. These five students received a phone call from a Charge representative who made an official contract offer. The students arrived prior to gates opening at the arena on March 17th and made their signing official courtside as Charge players looked on. Once the signing was made official, the new team members were issued Charge jerseys and watched the team warmup from the Charge bench. Following the team’s workout, the OCCS students formed a pre-game hi-five tunnel and greeted the players as they took the court.
With the support of their new teammates, the Charge went on to defeat the Wisconsin Herd 109-103 in front of 3,563 fans at the Canton Memorial Civic Center.
OCCS is a student-centered organization advocating excellence in education through strategic partnerships. We seek partnerships that allow schools to not only thrive but innovate and hold high standards for ourselves and others. We consider ourselves more than a sponsor. We ensure all students have access to high-quality education options and help make sure our schools meet requirements that govern testing. We employ regional representatives who liaise with the school board.
