Charge Hold Off Magic

ORLANDO, FL – The Canton Charge (4-5), powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, came away with a crucial 101-90 victory over the Lakeland Magic (4-5) on Wednesday afternoon at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World.

It was a tightly contested first quarter that saw 12 lead changes, Sheldon Mac delivered back-to-back threes to give the Charge the offensive momentum to pull ahead 29-25.  The Charge maintained an advantage throughout the entire second quarter and majority of the third before the Magic rolled off a 12-4 run to knot the game at 73-73.  Canton had their best defensive quarter of the night to close out the game, allowing just 17 Magic points on 8-or-19 shooting.  Two-Way Player Devon Dotson took the reins in the fourth, tallying nine points on a 4-for-6 shooting performance and nabbing two steals to help seal Canton’s victory.

Mac scored a season-high 31 points in 32 minutes, going 8-for-14 from the floor with eight rebounds. Veteran Levi Randolph notched 19 points and five assists while Dotson finished the game with 17 points and seven assists. Big-man Norvel Pelle recorded his third-straight double-double to begin his Charge tenure, with 10 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and three blocks in 26 minutes off the bench.

Mamadi Diakite came off the bench to lead the Magic with 21 points, 14 of which came in the first quarter, and 12 rebounds. Billy Garrett scored 19 points on a 9-for-15 line with five assists. Tahjere McCall (16) and Robert Franks (14) rounded out Lakeland’s double-digit performances.
