Charge Come Up Short in Indianapolis

INIANAPOLIS, IN – The Cleveland Charge (2-4) of the NBA G League, presented by Cleveland Clinic, came up short to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (3-1), 125-113, at the Gainsbridge Fieldhouse on Wednesday afternoon.

Fort Wayne got out to an early 36-32 lead after the first by sharing the ball for 12 assists on 14 made field goals in the quarter.  The second period was a back-and-forth affair that featured nine lead changes and five ties and neither team pulling ahead by more than two scores as the Charge led 65-62 at the break.

The difference came in the fourth quarter as the eight-man Charge were outscored 33-14 and held to 29% from the field as a team.  Cleveland held a 99-92 lead through the first three quarters thanks in part to hitting 14-of-32 three-pointers and 37-of-66 shots overall as a team (56%).  Kyle Guy had a double-double through three quarters and finished with 29 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and two steals in 42 minutes.

Justin James scored a game-high 30 points with seven rebounds in 36 minutes.  Malik Newman came off the bench to score 21 points on 5-of-10 three-pointers with a pair of steals in 33 minutes.  Tre Scott and Josh Huestis each added 12 points for the Charge.

Four Mad Ants players scored 20+ in the win, led by Pacers assignment Isaiah Jackson’s 24 with eight boards and two blocks in 21 minutes.  Justin Anderson scored 23 points and grabbed nine boards, while Duane Washington Jr. & Keifer Sykes each poured in 20.  Fort Wayne cleaned the glass for a 57-35 advantage in the game, with 25 second chance points.
