Charge Come Back to Beat Bulls

CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland Charge (2-2) of the NBA G League, presented by Cleveland Clinic, came back from a 14-point second half deficit to down the Windy City Bulls (1-3), 111-110, at the Wolstein Center on Friday evening to sweep a two-game set.

Kyle Guy helped get Cleveland started with 12 of the team’s 36 first quarter points, as the hosts hit 6-of-9 from three-point range and held a 36-26 advantage.  Windy City’s defense responded in the second quarter by holding the Charge to just 14 points, including holding Cleveland scoreless at one point for 3:51 of game time.  The Bulls’ Daniel Oturu scored 12 of his team’s 38 points in the second as the visitors took a 64-50 lead into the break.

Down 78-64 and 5:04 left in the third quarter, the Charge began to chip away at the deficit with an 18-10 run to close the quarter.  Cleveland then scored on their first three possessions of the fourth to knot the game at 88-88.  There were seven ties and five lead changes in the fourth quarter alone as the two teams traded blows trying to take control of the game.  The Charge turned up their defense by holding the Bulls scoreless for all but the final shot of the game in the last 1:53.

The Charge were led by Kyle Guy’s 33 points on 5-of-9 from three-point range with eight rebounds and five assists in 41 minutes.  R.J. Nembhard had a double-double of 28 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists in 37 minutes.  Justin James netted 18 points with five rebounds and four assists in 31 minutes off the bench.  Josh Huestis also came in relief to provide 15 points on 5-of-9 from three-point range 29 minutes.

All five Windy City starters scored in double figures, led by Daniel Oturu’s 29 points, 10 boards and two blocks in 35 minutes.  Devon Dotson posted a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds with seven assists and two steals in 37 minutes.  Ethan Thompson added 19 points and seven assists in 38 minutes.
