The Canton Charge (2-5), powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, were defeated at home by the Long Island Nets (5-4), 116-101, at the Canton Memorial Civic Center on Saturday night.
The Nets came into the game ranking last in the NBA G League in points per game (93.8), last in team field goal percentage (40.2%), last in team free throw percentage (66.5%) and second to last in team three-point percentage (30%). Tonight, Long Island scored 116 points on 42-of-79 from the field as a team (53.2%) with 10-of-28 three-pointers (35.7%) and 22-of-32 from the foul line (68.8%). Long Island led for the entire second half of the game.
Long Island was led by Isaiah Whitehead’s game-high 32 points on 11-of-21 shooting with 10 rebounds and four assists in 39 minutes. Milton Doyle added 30 points on 10-of-18 from the field and eight boards in 37 minutes. Whitehead and Doyle are the first pair of Charge opponents in franchise history to each score 30+ points in a game. The Nets’ Kamari Murphy added a double-double of 11 points and 15 boards with three blocks in 33 minutes.
Cedi Osman made his Canton debut on assignment with the Cleveland Cavaliers, scoring a team-high 21 points with eight rebounds and four steals in 39 minutes. Ante Zizic was also assigned from Cleveland and scored 14 points with seven rebounds in 26 minutes. JaCorey Williams tallied his third double-double of the season for the Charge by netting 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in 35 minutes. John Holland added 13 points in 21 minutes before fouling out, and London Perrantes made his return to the lineup after missing the previous three games with injury by scoring 12 points and dishing five assists in 34 minutes.
Canton will hit the road for a matchup at the Greensboro Swarm (Charlotte Hornets) on Tuesday, November 27th at 7:00 p.m. The Charge and Nets will meet again at the Memorial Civic Center on Friday, December 1st at 7:00 p.m. for Dollar Dog Night presented by Sugardale.
