The Canton Charge (19-15), powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, came back to take down the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (19-13), 120-109, at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum on Tuesday night. Canton takes a 2-0 season series lead between the two current Eastern Conference wild card teams as the Charge have won three out of their last four heading into the All-Star break.
Quinn Cook led all scorers with 36 points on 12-of-18 shooting, 13 assists, six rebounds and two steals in 43 minutes for his sixth double-double of the season. Roosevelt Jones posted his fourth double-double with an effort of 15 points and 14 rebounds in 41 minutes. Eric Moreland had 24 points and six boards in 38 minutes. John Holland added 22 points and six rebounds in 43 minutes as Canton had three players score 20+ points for the third time in four games. Mike Dunigan had 13 points and two blocks in 14 minutes off the bench.
Trailing 96-90 and 8:08 left, Canton rolled off a 19-2 run over a span of 3:52 to take their first lead after Fort Wayne never trailed during the first 41:42 of the game. The Charge outscored the Mad Ants 41-21 in the fourth quarter, forcing seven turnovers for 11 points and hitting 13-of-15 trips to the foul line spurred in part by two flagrant and four technical fouls by the hosts in the fourth. After Fort Wayne hit 54% from the field as a team in the first three quarters, they were held to 30% in the fourth.
Fort Wayne had six players score in double figures, led by Stephen Hicks scoring 19 points in 24 minutes. Julyan Stone had a double-double of 12 points and 10 assists in 35 minutes. Ben Bentil & Jarrod Uthoff both added 15 points off the bench. The Mad Ants hit 14-of-26 three-pointers as a unit in the game, but were outscored in the paint 58-30.
