The Canton Charge, powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, will open their seventh season at home in the Memorial Civic Center on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 7:00 p.m. against the Memphis Hustle (Memphis Grizzlies). The Charge’s regular season opener will take place on the road at the Greensboro Swarm (Charlotte Hornets) on Friday, Nov. 4 at 7:00 p.m.
“We’re looking forward to beginning another successful season and adding to the championship-caliber of basketball that resides in Northeast Ohio,” said Charge Senior Vice President Mike Levy. “The game at The Q will give our Wine & Gold fans an experience unlike any other in the NBA G League to go along with all we have in store this season.”
For the first time ever, the Charge will play a regular season game in the world class confines of Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland on Thursday, Dec. 28 at 7:00 p.m. against the Windy City Bulls (Chicago Bulls). Canton fans will get the industry-leading game entertainment experience at The Q while watching the Charge take on the Central Division rival Bulls. Charge Nation will be able to enjoy perennial favorite promotions like Cavs Night and Wine & Gold themed giveaways, Youth Basketball Night, School Day, Family Days, Fan Appreciation Night and much more. Dollar Dog Nights presented by Sugardale, Friday postgame free throws and Saturday postgame autographs are also returning this season. The complete promotional schedule, list of giveaways, and single game ticket information will become available at a later date.
Canton will play 16 of their 24 home games on weekends, with December featuring the most home games (7) and November the least (2). Canton will play 16 games against Central Division opponents (8 home, 8 road) and face off against four opponents making their first visit to Canton (Lakeland, Memphis, Salt Lake City, Wisconsin).
In accordance with the NBA starting the season earlier to allow for more in-season rest in maximizing performance, the NBA G League has followed suit. Sets of four games in five nights and five games in seven nights will no longer occur, as well as back-to-backs being reduced an average of 1.6 per team. The increase in franchises gives way to a decrease in travel strain, with the Charge only traveling 18,300 miles total this season compared to 28,600 in 2016-17.
The NBA G League on Thursday announced the 48-game home-road slate for all 26 teams competing in two Conferences (Eastern, Western) each containing three divisions (Atlantic, Central, Southeast; Midwest, Southwest, Pacific). Each team will play an additional two games at the 2018 NBA G League Showcase in Mississauga, ON from Jan. 10-13.
